Postal Service Considers Closing Many Local Offices
Postal Service Considers Closing Many Local Offices- Post Offices would be closing or consolidating services across the whole USA, according to recent reports, Eighteen branches in Contra Costa and Alameda counties are being considered for consolidation by the United States Postal Service as part of a nationwide cost-cutting measure. In Philadelphia there are reports that fifteen postal offices will be closing or consolidating.
According to Augustine Ruize, the postal spokesman for the Bay Valley district, Urban areas with more than one postal station or branch may see auxiliary offices consolidated into fewer branches to streamline operations and cut costs.
He said: “We don’t put up a for-sale sign and we don’t go out of business and we’re trying to stay in business”.
Ruiz said branches scheduled for “consolidation” will be chosen based on proximity to other locations and anticipated savings. They will also take into account consumer service, he said.
Although services will still be provided through other branches and some consumers may still be inconvenienced.
