The free email accounts can be accessed via any web browser that is able to load and display the webmail interface – all the latest browser programs are more than capable for this job.

In my opinion, out of the three services mentioned above, Yahoo email as the best email ever. Why? Check the following list:

* Organization of email messages made super-simple through the use of folders and drag-n-drop functionality

Furthermore, the webmail interface actually comes in two flavours – the Yahoo Classic version and the All-New Mail; and you can switch from one Yahoo version to another with a simple mouse click.

On the downside, messages from free accounts cannot be downloaded and stored on your computer unless you use the free Yahoo email program (Zimbra desktop). However, upgrading to Yahoo! Plus will let you access your email account with any email program / client.

To check the email through the webmail interface, you need to login at your account through the Yahoo mail sign in page located at – refer image below. This should be simple enough as long as you know the Yahoo ID (username) and the password. In addition to the fields in which you type the login details, there are other elements on this page which I shall be telling you about. These extra features have been incorporated by Yahoo for your convenience and security.

Yahoo sign in process explained: The two fields in which you are required to enter the Yahoo ID and the password are prominently placed in the right section of the page. Once you type in these login details, simply click on the Sign In button located under them to access the messages in your account. FYI, you don’t need to type in the full Yahoo email address in the ID field – simply entering the part before the ‘at’ sign (@) will work.

There are two important features on this Yahoo sign in page – one is for account security and the other for your convenience. But their use is optional – if you don’t want to take advantage of these, it’s OK. But do try to understand why they have been put in place.

This does what it says – it keeps you signed in at your account for 2 weeks; which means you won’t have to enter the Yahoo user ID and password each time you want to check email. Though this is for your convenience, I strongly recommend that you don’t use this feature especially if you are a new account holder. Why? Because recalling the password of your account each time you sign in will keep it fresh in your memory. Trust me; there are tons of people who write to me asking for help because they forgot the Yahoo ID or the password. And oh! You shouldn’t use this on a public or a shared computer such as one in a library because it’s meant only for your machine.
