Bio: Natalee Ann Holloway was born on 21 October 1986 in Clinton, Mississippi to David Edward and Elizabeth Ann Holloway. Her parents divorced in 1993, and Natalee lived with her mother and younger brother. Elizabeth remarried to George Twitty, a prominent Alabama businessman in 2000.

Natalee graduated with honors from Mountain Brook High School in Alabama. Additionally, she was a member of the National Honor Society and her school’s dance team. She planned to attend the University of Alabama in the fall of 2005 when she went missing in May of 2005 in Aruba during a high school graduation trip.

Holloway was seen last by her classmates when she left Carlos’n Charlie’s night club around 1:30 a.m. on Monday, 30 May 2005. She left with 17-year-old Joran van der Sloot, a Dutch honors student who lived in Aruba and his two Surinamese friends, 21-year-old Deepak Kalpie and 18-year-old Satish Kalpoe. When Halloway did not return for her flight home and her luggage and passport were found in her room later that day, Aruban authorities initiated searches for her throughout the island and surrounding waters, but did not find her.

That same Monday, Holloway’s mother and stepfather flew to Aruba on a private jet to conduct their own search. They found Van der Sloot and confronted him to no avail. In fact, over the following years, Van Der Sloot would recreate his story over and over, was arrested twice and released. Many other individuals were arrested, detained and questioned in Aruba and in the Netherlands. After all the questioning and physical evidence examined, it appears that Holloway had disappeared into thin air.

This story, much like the coverage of O.J. Simpson’s trial, received heavy media coverage. Authorities from Aruba, the U.S., and Dutch National Police have been involved with the investigation on and off over the years. The latest attempt to find Natalee has been in March 2009, when her natural father, David Holloway, flew a search dog to Aruba to search a small reservoir in northern Aruba previously identified by a supposed witness as a possible location of Natalee’s remains.

Natalee (Natalie) Holloway Wikipedia: Natalee Ann Holloway disappeared on May 30, 2005, during a high school graduation trip to Aruba, a Caribbean country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. An American student from Mountain Brook, Alabama, Holloway graduated from Mountain Brook High School on May 24, 2005, shortly before the trip. Her disappearance caused a media sensation in the United States.

Holloway was scheduled to fly home later on May 30, but failed to appear for her flight. She was last seen by her classmates outside Carlos’n Charlie’s, a Caribbean chain restaurant and nightclub in Oranjestad, in a car with locals Joran van der Sloot and brothers Deepak and Satish Kalpoe. When questioned, the three men said they dropped her off at her hotel and denied knowing what became of Holloway. Upon further investigation by authorities, Van der Sloot was arrested twice on suspicion of involvement in her disappearance and the Kalpoes were each arrested three times. Due to lack of evidence the three men were released without charge after each arrest.

With the help of hundreds of volunteers, Aruban investigators conducted an extensive search for Holloway. Special Agents from the FBI, fifty Dutch soldiers and three specially equipped Dutch Air Force F-16 aircraft participated in the search. In addition to the ground search, divers examined the ocean floor for evidence of Holloway’s body. The searches were unsuccessful, and according to Aruban authorities she is most likely dead. On December 18, 2007, Aruban prosecutors announced that the case would be closed without any charges sought against the former suspects. The Aruban prosecutor’s office reopened the case on February 1, 2008, after receiving video footage of Joran van der Sloot, under the influence of marijuana, making statements that Holloway died on the morning of May 30, 2005, and that he disposed of her body. Van der Sloot later denied that what he said was true, and subsequently gave Greta Van Susteren an interview (the contents of which he later retracted) in which he stated that he sold Holloway into white slavery.

Holloway’s family has criticized Aruban investigators throughout the search for a perceived lack of progress in finding her. Holloway’s family called for a boycott of Aruba, which gained Alabama Governor Bob Riley’s support but failed to gain widespread backing.

On Thursday, May 26, 2005, Holloway and 124 fellow graduates of Mountain Brook High School, located in a wealthy suburb of Birmingham, Alabama, arrived in Aruba for a five-day, unofficial graduation trip. The graduates were accompanied by seven chaperones. According to teacher and chaperone Bob Plummer, the chaperones met with the students each day to ensure nothing was wrong. However, Jodi Bearman—the chaperone who organized the trip—has stated, “the chaperones were not supposed to keep up with their every move”. Police Commissioner Gerold Dompig, who would head the investigation from mid-2005 until 2006, described the behavior of the Mountain Brook students, stating there was “wild partying, a lot of drinking, lots of room switching every night. We know the Holiday Inn told them they weren’t welcome next year. Natalee, we know, she drank all day every day. We have statements she started every morning with cocktails—so much drinking that Natalee didn’t show up for breakfast two mornings”. Two of Holloway’s classmates, Liz Cain and Claire Fierman, “agreed that the drinking was kind of excessive”.

Holloway was last seen by her classmates leaving the Aruban bar and night club Carlos’n Charlie’s around 1:30 a.m. on Monday, May 30. Holloway left with 17-year-old Joran van der Sloot, a Dutch honors student living in Aruba and attending the Aruba International School, and his two Surinamese friends, 21-year-old Deepak Kalpoe and 18-year-old Satish Kalpoe, in Deepak Kalpoe’s car. Holloway, who had been scheduled to fly home later on May 30, did not appear for her return flight, and her packed luggage and passport were found in her Holiday Inn room. Aruban authorities initiated searches for Holloway throughout the island and surrounding waters but did not find her.

To the parents, family and friends of Natalee,

I have never met your daughter or family, but I followed hers and your story and offer my condolences, this I am sure can do little when you are dealing with the loss of a child. I went to Aruba on my honeymoon and thought of her daily as we traveled and toured the island, seeing how beautiful it was, thinking that she may have thought the same thing, a strange thought for someone who isn't a family member or friend I am sure, but as strange as it was it was in the back of my mind. I don't usually respond or contact pages such as this since I am not directly linked or involved in any way, but my family did suffer the loss of a member with no answers, though it is not the same I wanted to write.

This may have little comfort to both you and your husband Mrs. Holloway, but it must bring some sort of satisfaction knowing that one of the monsters responsible for your daughters disappearance will hopefully be looking forward to a long long time in jail, even though it comes at the loss of another young woman, which had he and the other two monsters been held accountable for Natalee would not have been free now if things had been done correctly, it must offer some comfort. I don't know how hard it is to lose a child but I do know how hard it is to live every day having that not knowing feeling. I don't know how you and your husband are able to function only that time has helped I am sure, though this is not something you will ever get over, it is something you will eventually get through. I hope that animal is found guilty, and though I am a believer in the death penalty I pray he is sentenced to life with no parole and lives a very very long time in prison being tortured daily for his actions. I know that if he and those other two had been held accountable for Natalee's disappearance this would have never happened and only they and god know what else they have gotten away with, but eventually you have to live with knowing that god doesn't like ugly and it may take time but eventually you will be held accountable for your actions. I will say a prayer for you both as well as one for your daughter.
