School Closings in Wisconsin and Milwaukee Due to Swine Flu

The Schools are closings in Wisconsin due to Swine Flu. And not more schools are closing for swine flu. According to the jsonline.com, Three probable cases of swine flu were identified in Wisconsin on Wednesday, including two in Milwaukee, prompting officials to close four city schools indefinitely as global health authorities warned that the virus could soon become a pandemic.

According to the Swineflu.org, The number of school closings across Wisconsin is on the rise as H1N1 flu symptoms continue to spread.

The most recent closures occurred yesterday and today. Mount Calvary Lutheran School in Menasha will be closed through Monday, as will New Century Charter School in Verona, and the entire Crandon School District in Crandon. Walworth Elementary and Middle Schools will be closed through Tuesday, Oct. 27.

Schools closed until Friday include St. Peter’s Lutheran School in Mishicot, South Elementary School in Hartland-Lakeside, Canterbury Elementary School in Greendale, and St. Paul Lutheran School in Green Bay.

Schools that have previously been closed but are now re-opened are Notre Dame Elementary and Middle School in DePere; Ashwaubenon High School in Ashwaubenon; New Lutheran High School in Green Bay; Medford School District in Medford; River Valley Middle School in River Valley; and Wisconsin Dells School District.

Absentee rates in St. Croix County have been rising in many districts. No local schools have been closed as a result of the pandemic.

The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) announced that after Oct. 21, superintendents will have the power to close their school due to health and safety concerns and waive make-up days.

According to Jsonline.com, The city also closed one day care center. A few more schools in surrounding suburbs and counties also have announced closings because of the H1N1 flu, which so far has caused one death in Texas and sickened several hundred people in at least 34 states.
