Mike Penner announced in an April 26, 2007 column that he is a transsexual and intended to return from a vacation as Christine Daniels. The Daniels identity appeared in the Times from October 2007 until about March 2008 before the “Mike Penner” byline reappeared in October 2008.
Penner was found dead in his Los Angeles home on Nov. 28, 2009 of an apparent suicide.
