Jennifer Lopez Granted Temporary Restraining Order Barring Ex-husband from Peddling Sexy Home Videos
A judge granted celebrity singer Jennifer Lopez, 34, a temporary restraining order barring ex-husband Ojani Noa Tuesday from selling sexy home videos of their brief marriage.
Ojani Noa was in court without a lawyer and claimed after the ruling it was never his intention to sell the steamy camcorder footage. He said he planned to make a Borat-style mocumentary about his life as a Cuban immigrant.
“She is destroying my life,” Noa told the Daily News outside court. “This is another proof of her power and money trying to stop me from moving on with my life.”
Ojani Noa swore the home videos were not for sale.
“I’m not making any money from these videos,” he said. “This is about having a closure. It’s my story.”
Jennifer Lopez’s first marriage was to Cuban-born Ojani Noa on February 22, 1997. J. Lo. met Noa while he worked as a waiter at a Miami restaurant. They divorced in January 1998. Lopez later employed Noa as the manager of her Pasadena restaurant Madre’s in April 2002, but he was fired in October 2002. After Ojani Noa sued Lopez over the termination, they drew up a confidentiality agreement.
In April 2006, Lopez sued to prevent her ex-husband, Noa, from publishing a book containing personal details about their short marriage, contending it violated their confidentiality agreement.
In August 2007, a court-appointed arbitrator issued a permanent injunction forbidding Ojani Noa from “criticizing, denigrating, casting in a negative light or otherwise disparaging” Jennifer Lopez. She was awarded $545,000 in compensatory damages, which included nearly $300,000 in legal fees and almost $48,000 in arbitration costs. Noa was also ordered to hand over all copies of materials related to the book to Lopez or her attorney.
In 2009, it was reported that Noa is going to do a film about Lopez titled, “How I Married Jennifer Lopez: The J.Lo and Ojani Noa Story”. Apart for the movie, it has been reported that Noa has intensions to market “11+ hours of previously unseen home video footage”. The footage reportedly includes Lopez “in a revealing lack of clothing, and in sexual situations, especially in the hotel room from [her and Noa’s honeymoon”.
In November 2009, it was reported that Lopez is suing Noa for $10 million for invading her privacy and for breach of contract, citing a previous confidentiality agreement between the two. In addition, Jennifer Lopez is asking the judge to prevent Ojani Noa from releasing the movie or footage.
