Man Accused of Taking ESPN’s Erin Andrews Hotel Room Peephole Video Taping
The man (Michael David Barrett) accused of taking a hacksaw to a hotel room peephole videotaping ESPN reporter Erin Andrews in the nude will be released on bail but kept on home confinement and electronic monitoring. The federal magistrate in Chicago ruled today after prosecutors says Michael David Barrett, 47, has filmed other women in hotel rooms while nude and called he is a danger to the community.

Prosecutor Steve Grimes called Michael David Barrett’s interest in Erin Andrews an “obsession.”
Steve Grimes said Barrett of Westmont, tracked Erin-Andrews movements in a “methodical” manner.
Prosecutor Grimes said of Barrett, who’s accused of covertly video-recording Andrews,“This was not just a whimsical act.”
“This was an obsession, one that was acted out…one he carried out through various states.”

Erin Andrews’ own detective work was integral in helping investigators track and arrest her suspected stalker, Andrews’ attorney said today.
Michael David Barrett is accused of trying to sell videos of Erin Andrews to celebrity Web site TMZ.com and posting them online.

A federal magistrate judge is expected to decide Monday whether Michael David Barrett should be returned to California as a prisoner or be freed on bail. He faces charges in Los Angeles, where TMZ is based, of interstate stalking. He faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted.
Barrett’s lawyer Rick Beuke said, he did not believe Michael David Barrett had so much as a traffic ticket on his record.
Beuke, who has known him for a decade said, “He’s as regular a guy as you’ll ever meet — a great friend.”
“I must have calls from 30 people wanting to know what they could do to help.”
