Champions League Match Review :
Chelsea – 4 : Liverpool – 4
Chelsea moved into the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League after a incredible 4-4 draw with Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.
Fabio Aurelio and Xabi Alonso fire the Reds into a commanding half-time lead. But in second half an own goal from Jose Reina, a thunderbolt from Alex and a bundled effort from Frank Lampard saw the Blues turn the tie around. An extra ordinary effort from Lucas and a Dirk Kuyt header set up a grandstand finish, but Lampard snatched his second of the night with time ticking away to hand Chelsea a 7-5 aggregate win and a clear moving to semi finals.
From the start of this football match Liverpool dominated the proceedings and with no surprise after 19 minutes they got the breakthrough.
Outstanding thinking from Aurelio saw him catch out the usually reliable Petr Cech with a 30-yard free-kick which he snuck inside the post with the Chelsea keeper caught in no-man’s land.
Liverpool went far ahead after 28 minutes as Branislav Ivanovic was penalised for holding in the box and Alonso fired home from the spot.
Liverpool were in dreamland after first half, but all of a sudden the drama was began by the goal keeper of Liverpool Reina.
A slight touch from Didier Drogba on a low Nicolas Anelka cross was enough to see Reina push the ball to his own net after the seven minutes of second half, before Alex rifled home the most spectacular of free-kicks five minutes later.
Then Lampard made the lead for the Blues from some fine work by Drogba on 76 minutes, but within five minutes Lucas levelled matters once again when his deflected effort beat a stranded Cech.
Kuyt then thrashed the ball by a fabulous head on 82 minutes as Liverpool began to believe again, but it was Lampard who broke their dreams in the final minute when he lashed into the top corner from the edge of the box.
The Blues will play against Barcelona in semi final.
